What "rake" means in gardening

A rake is a tool that is used for leveling, smoothing, or removing debris from soil, gravel, or other surfaces. Rakes typically have a long handle and a row of teeth or tines attached to the end of the handle. The teeth or tines are usually made of metal, plastic, or bamboo, and can be either flexible or rigid.

Rakes can be used for a variety of gardening tasks, such as preparing soil for planting, removing leaves and other debris from lawns, leveling soil or gravel surfaces, and distributing mulch or compost. There are also specialized rakes, such as leaf rakes, that are designed specifically for removing fallen leaves and other lightweight debris from lawns and gardens.
