What "tablebase" means in chess

Tablebase is a computerized database of all possible legal positions and moves in a particular endgame scenario. It allows players and computers to calculate the optimal moves and outcome of a specific endgame position with perfect play. These databases have been generated for all endgame scenarios with a limited number of pieces on the board, typically six pieces or less, and are used by chess engines to improve their endgame play.
