What "piece" means in chess

A piece refers to one of the six types of movable objects on a chessboard: king, queen, rook, bishop, knight, or pawn. Each player has 16 pieces, with the goal of the game being to checkmate the opponent's king by capturing pieces and strategically maneuvering the pieces across the board.
