What "opposition" means in chess

Opposition is a technique where one player blocks their opponent's King from advancing by placing their own King in front of them. This technique is used to gain control of the board, restrict the movement of the opponent's King, and potentially force their King to move away from a valuable square or piece. The term "opposition" can also refer to a situation where both players have Kings facing each other with an odd number of squares between them, making it difficult for either player to advance.
