What "fianchetto" means in chess

A fianchetto is a chess opening strategy in which the bishop is developed to a long diagonal square behind the protection of a pawn, from its initial position on the first rank. This move can provide more control over the center of the board and can help to protect the king's position. Fianchetto is Italian for "little flank," referring to the development of the bishop along a diagonal that starts on one of the sides of the board.
