What "technical foul" means in basketball

A technical foul is a type of violation in basketball that is committed by a player, coach, or team member. It is called for non-contact offenses such as unsportsmanlike conduct, disrespectful behavior towards the officials or players, fighting, dangerous play, and delay of game. In the case of a technical foul, the opposing team is awarded a free throw and possession of the ball.
