What "shooting guard" means in basketball

In basketball, the shooting guard is a position on the court typically filled by a player with excellent ball handling skills and the ability to make long-range shots. Shooting guards often work together with the point guard to bring the ball up the court and initiate offensive plays. They are responsible for being a scoring threat and are often expected to have a strong understanding of defensive concepts as well.
