What "passing lane" means in basketball

In basketball, the "passing lane" refers to the space between two defenders that the ball-handler can use to pass the ball to a teammate. It is an important area of the court as defenders want to prevent passes from happening in this area in order to steal the ball or disrupt the flow of offense. Players on offense will look to create passing lanes by moving off the ball and making quick cuts to get open.
