What "charge" means in basketball

A charge in basketball is a type of personal foul that occurs when an offensive player runs into a defensive player who has established a legal guarding position. The defensive player must be set and stationary before the offensive player makes contact in order for a charge to be called. When a charge is called, the offensive player is assessed a foul, and usually results in the team losing possession of the ball.
