What "backcourt" means in basketball

In basketball, the backcourt refers to the area of the court behind the half-court line. When a team has possession of the ball and crosses the half-court line, they cannot go back into the backcourt. If they do, it results in a violation called a "backcourt violation" and the other team gains possession of the ball.
