What "sinker" means in baseball

In baseball, a sinker is a pitch that is thrown with a grip that causes it to have a downward, sinking motion as it approaches home plate. This pitch is often used by pitchers to induce ground balls from batters and therefore create more opportunities for outs. The sinker is particularly effective against batters who are more likely to hit balls in the air, such as power hitters.
