What "inning" means in baseball

In baseball, an inning is the basic unit of play. Each team has nine innings to score as many runs as possible. The team with the most runs at the end of the nine innings wins the game. A half-inning consists of a team taking their turn to bat (offense) and the other team taking the field to defend (defense).
