What "hit" means in baseball

In baseball, a hit is when a batter strikes the ball and it lands within the boundaries of the playing field, known as fair territory, without being caught by a fielder. A hit can be a single, double, triple, or home run depending on how far and in which direction the ball is hit. The number of hits a team accumulates during a game is important because it can directly impact the number of runs they score and ultimately affect the outcome of the game.
