What "curveball" means in baseball

A curveball is a type of pitch in baseball that is thrown in an off-speed manner. Unlike a fastball, which is thrown with high speed and minimal spin, a curveball is thrown with a significant amount of spin to cause it to move in an unpredictable path as it approaches the batter. This makes it more difficult for the batter to hit and can result in strikeouts or weakly hit ground balls. Mastering the curveball requires practice and proper technique, as improper grip or release can cause the ball to either not curve enough or curve too much, making it an ineffective pitch.
