What "ball" means in baseball

In baseball, the term "ball" refers to a pitch that is outside of the strike zone and is not swung at by the batter. If a pitch is called a ball, the count on the batter increases by one. The pitcher is allowed to throw four balls before the batter is awarded a walk to first base.
