What "at bat" means in baseball
In baseball, an "at bat" represents an individual's turn or chance to hit the ball. Each player on the offensive team will have an opportunity to take their turn at bat in a prescribed order, which is determined by team strategy. During the at bat, the goal of the batter is to hit a fair ball that is in play, ideally allowing him to advance to first base and begin the process of scoring a run for his team.
